*This post contains Yellowjackets Season 3 spoilers. The season finale aired April 11, 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime*

This article is going to be mostly focused on pit girl/the final episode of season 3. Therefore, I will not be going into detail about Van’s death or the theories surrounding the events of the season because trust I could write an entire book on that. Moving along!

Since the pilot episode, Yellowjackets fans have theorized which of the girls the iconic pit girl was going to be. Being the first death viewers saw on the show with little to no explanation at the time, it sends the series off to an eerie start. Pit girls death was assumed by the audience to be an important part of the story at some point – and it is.

It’s in the finale of season 3, “Full Circle,” that we find out PG is none other than the funniest Yellowjacket, Mari (Alexa Barajas). It’s been foreshadowed multiple times that Mari was going to be Pit Girl, with it being especially heavily hinted at in season 3.

Mari being confirmed as Pit Girl isn’t the only reveal of the finale, Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) murderer is also uncovered.

The first episode of season 3, titled “It Girl,” kicked off the season with the girls playing a verrry intense hunt game, which is quickly escalated with a confrontation between Shauna and Mari. Shauna was chasing Mari – and she was relentless. Turns out, Mari was just the decoy and took one for the team to lead them to victory. A very familiar string of events, we come to find later.

Throughout the season, Mari and Shauna had many uncomfortable conflicts. Mari’s snarky comments and Shauna’s shortening temper made for some arguments and building irritability.

In episode 3 of the season, titled “Them’s The Breaks,” citizen detectives started to really string together their theories of Mari being pit girl. In this episode, Mari actually does fall into the pit pre-spiked and came across Coach Ben as he was hiding out from the girls. After some gruesome scenes of her popping her own knee back into place and making a fan favorite remix (being “too sexy for this cave”) she ultimately led Coach Ben to his death by revealing his location.

Prior to the hunt, it’s shown that Lottie is killed by Callie, Shauna’s daughter, after completely weirding her out by calling her “the child of that place.” There’s different theories on the Jackie’s necklace, one being that whoever is wearing the necklace is not the one who will die – but one who will kill.

Of course, in the finale we see that the rigged card game backfires on the team and Mari pulls the Queen of Hearts. Shauna caught on that Tai and Van had rigged the cards to have her henchman Hannah be the one that was hunted. Shauna stood next to Mari to disrupt the pattern and save Hannah.

Mari being the one next to Shauna was a bonus in her book, the first thing she says to Mari when she pulled the card was “tough break, Mar” with a smug look on her face. As soon as we saw the familiar white dress when Mari shed her color block windbreaker we knew what was coming.

Mari being pit girl solidified her as possibly the most meaningful death yet. Without that “sacrifice” Natalie would likely not have been able to escape and call for help. Season 4 will hopefully kick off without too much of a time skip as many are wondering what Natalie’s reaction will be to Mari dying.

Season 4 has many questions to answer and even more emotions to explore. Fans are eager to find out what the rest of the (projected) last 2 seasons have in store. The question still remaining – who will be the final girl in the end?

Yellowjackets was renewed for season 4 on May 20, 2025.
