The Daryl Dixon spinoff remains one of the Walking Dead Universe’s most compelling stories. At San Diego Comic‑Con 2025, AMC delivered a packed Hall H panel with updates on season 3—and confirmed that season 4 will be the final chapter in Daryl and Carol’s journey.
As someone who attended last year’s Daryl Dixon panel at NYCC, where we first got early glimpses into the emotional themes and a sneak peek to Daryl and Carols reunion, I came to SDCC with high expectations. AMC delivered.
Premiere Date & Final Season
AMC confirmed that season 3 premieres September 7, 2025 on AMC and AMC+. Season 4 will be the final season of the Daryl Dixon spinoff. It feels like we just got the announcement for the show yesterday! Season 4 has begun filming in Spain already.
Setting
Daryl & Carol will continue their journey through Europe, moving from France to Spain this season. Season 3 was filmed around Galicia, Aragón, Catalonia, Valencia, and around Madrid. One highlight? A major train sequence shot in Aragón reportedly “will blow people away,” blending sweeping landscapes with high-stakes tension according to an interview with Variety. We cannot wait to see.

What do the actors have to say?
According to GamesRadar, Norman Reedus spoke about Daryl being “pretty fucked up” after Season 2—and that Season 3 throws him immediately into new emotional and physical battles. Melissa McBride highlighted Carol’s deep emotional and practical growth and the show’s evolving dynamic between Carol and Daryl. Producer Scott Gimple and showrunner David Zabel framed the series as flexible and border-crossing—new settings offer fresh creative ground each season.
NYCC
Last year, we attended NYCC and were able to get gain insight to The Book of Carol with Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Scott Gimple, Dave Zabel, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi backstage (the photos will be back up in the gallery tab soon!). Season 2 had influence from French history and a running theme of found family. The crew for season 2 were mostly French people, they’re following suit with the crew in Spain being mostly Spanish as it adds another layer of authenticity to the show.
There’s been no confirmation of anyone from the Daryl Dixon spinoff announced for NYCC yet, and some are worried that filming season 4 may get in the way of any chance of that. Updates will be provided here if anything changes!
