Life is Strange: Reunion?

A staple in the universe of storytelling video games, Life is Strange has a huge cult following in the story that originally started in Oregon.

In the original game titled Life is Strange, developed by Dontnod Entertainment, players make choices that follow along the story of Blackwell Academy senior, Max Caulfield. Choices you make in the story affect the end and side stories throughout the entire game.

With such huge success, Deck Nine released Life is Strange: Before the Storm

To make it simpler, here’s the chronological order the Life is Strange games have been released, who the story follows, and what team developed it:

  • 2015: Life is Strange: follows the story of Max and Chloe at Blackwell Academy. (Dontnod)
  • 2017: Life is Strange: Before the Storm: follows the original games deuteragonist, Chloe Price. (Deck Nine)
  • 2018: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit: a short story following Chris, a character revisited in Life is Strange 2. (Dontnod)
  • 2018: Life is Strange 2: the Diaz brothers are the main characters, making their way through the country after losing their father at the hands of police brutality. (Dontnod)
  • 2021: Life is Strange: True Colors: follows a new character, Alex Chen, a young woman with supernatural powers. (Deck Nine)
  • 2024: Life is Strange: Double Exposure: back to Max Caulfield, years after Arcadia Bay, investigating a supernatural death years after her powers stopped working (Deck Nine)
  • 2026: Life is Strange: Reunion: the most recent game, reuniting Chloe and Max at Caledon University – the setting of Double Exposure. (Deck Nine)

Reuniting Max and Chloe eleven years after we first (and last, before this release) saw their characters together and having such a highly anticipated release is impressive in its own right.

Did the game live up to expectations? Some fans were worried that it wouldn’t, that the Dontnod developed games carry an entirely different feeling than Deck Nine’s. As it stands now, the game has a 4.6 star rating on the Steam store and most reviews seem satisfied with the endings, clearing it as an impressively on-brand send off for Max and Chloe’s story.

Personally, I’m excited to dive into the story of Max and Chloe again and see if Deck Nine lives up to bringing these characters and their quirks back.

In other Life is Strange universe news, a TV series is in development for Amazon Prime. Maisy Stella is cast as Chloe Price, and Tatum Grace Hopkins is cast as Max Caulfield. Showrunner is Charlie Covell (known for The End of the F*ing World) is writing and executive producing the show. Karyn Kusama is set to direct.

Be sure to keep on eye out on new details about the show. What are your thoughts on the new Reunion?
